Tulipa Double Price is a recent variety with a unique colour in shades of pink, lavender, and mauve, surrounded by flamed green petals. It belongs to a new generation of double tulips that stand out in the garden from April. Its large, fully rounded flower is worthy of the most beautiful Dutch paintings and gracefully blooms like a magnolia flower. Showcase it along the edge of a flowerbed, amidst a backdrop of wildflowers, and breathe in its fragrance in a large pot on the terrace!
Â
The 'Double Price' Tulip belongs to the Liliaceae family. Horticulturally bred and introduced in 1992, it is currently classified in the group of early double tulips, whose main characteristic is that they all flower at the same height, making them a popular choice for well-organized flowerbeds. They are offered in a mix of colours under the name 'Murillo' tulips. Perched on short, sturdy stems of 35 cm (14in) emerging from large, lanceolate, slightly glaucous green leaves, the large double flowers, with a colour between mauve and pink, iridescent with silver, are fully open. Green nuances can be observed on the outside of the corolla, blending with the beautiful colour that characterizes this variety. It flowers in April, in the heart of the tulip season.
Â
The 'Double Price' tulip pairs well with other early double white tulips like Mondial, pink like Foxtrot, or bicolours like Melrose. Its flowers will be enhanced by the small 'daisies' of chamomiles and the umbels and feathery foliage of yarrows, wild chervil, or ornamental carrots. Its base can be covered with silver basket or Dichondra Silver Falls. In a vase, it can accompany tulips such as 'Françoise', 'Greenstar', and 'Purple Tower', or even florist's ranunculus in muted tones, soft pink oriental hyacinths, and a few branches of jasmine for fragrance.
With infinite colour variations, sturdy and resistant flowers and a long flowering period, usable in flowerbeds and as cut flowers, the fame of early double tulips is well established. They are among the most planted varieties because they are unmatched in bringing spring colour to pots or sunny gardens. Don't forget to consider the height and flowering period when designing your flowerbeds, as these can vary significantly from one cultivar to another. It is a good idea to plant a few extra bulbs for cutting, as they make beautiful cut flowers that last a long time in a vase.

Botanical data
Plant Double Price double tulips in a sunny location from October to December for beautiful spring flowers. You can also plant them in a partially shaded area. Plant the bulbs as soon as possible in light, fertile, and well-drained soil that has been deeply loosened, at a depth of 15 cm (6in) (bulbs should be covered with twice their height in soil). Space them 10 cm (4in) apart, making sure they do not touch each other to create a mass that will give a more decorative appearance; cut the flower stalks after flowering. Allow the leaves to dry completely before cutting them.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
