Description

The 'Flashpoint' double early Tulip is one of the most beautiful varieties in its category. It is captivating with its variegated cream-white foliage, surprising with the size of its peony-like flowers, but also with their changing colours. The corolla blooms in pearl pink flamed with green on the outside and matures to a true pink, much deeper, variegated with cardinal red. This voluptuous flower is perched at the end of a short stem that is very resistant to bad weather. Its flowering follows that of early single tulips. It will be spectacular when paired with the 'Palmyra' Tulip, both in the garden and in a vase.

The 'Flashpoint' Tulip was introduced to the horticultural market in 2002. It is currently classified in the group of early double tulips, whose main characteristic is to flower at the same height, making it a popular category among lovers of well-organized flowerbeds. They are often offered in a mix of colours under the name of 'Murillo' tulips. Perched on strong 35-40cm (14-16in) stems, just above the widely lanceolate leaves, the fully double flowers, at least 12cm (5in) wide when fully open, open almost flat. The flowering takes place in April. The leaves of this variety, finely edged with cream-white on a glaucous green background, are particularly decorative. They dry out a few weeks after flowering, while the bulb goes into dormancy.

With their wide range of colours, strong and resistant flowers, suitable for both flowerbeds and enhancing your bouquets or pots, the reputation of peony-flowered tulips is well established. It is no coincidence that they are among the most commonly used varieties for cut flowers. Unmatched in bringing the colours of spring to sunny borders, don't forget to consider the height and flowering period of tulips when designing your flowerbeds, as these parameters vary significantly from one cultivar to another. It is wise to plant a few more bulbs for cutting, as they make stunning long-lasting cut flowers. 'Flashpoint', with its delightful pink and red colour, pairs beautifully with 'Sweet Amy', 'Verona', as well as the blue flowers of muscari or wood hyacinths.

Sold in sets of 6, 18, and 60 bulbs. Size 12+.

Planting and care

How to plant my tulips? Plant your tulips as soon as possible in a well-drained soil. Loosen the soil deeply. Plant at a depth of 15cm (6in) (Bulbs should be covered with soil that is twice their height). Space the bulbs a few cm apart, making sure they do not touch each other. Choose a sunny exposure for better flowering. After flowering, cut the flower stems and let the leaves dry completely before cutting them. After flowering, their foliage becomes unsightly and faded. We recommend planting Heuchera, Tiarella, Brunnera, Bleeding Heart, Cypress Spurge in the foreground of your flowerbeds. Their foliage will enhance the colours of your tulips and, during the season, they will elegantly hide their yellowed leaves. Please review the following translation: How to plant my tulips?
