So I have to be very careful when choosing my young plants. I moved this year and I was very surprised by the situation and some plants died. I would like a hydrangea that can tolerate the sun. Thank you.

Description

The 'Victoria's Secret' Tulip is a very recent variety of parrot tulip, which bears the name of the famous American lingerie brand like a torch. Its robe, which appears to be woven from purple satin and violet silk, seems dyed in a magenta red at blooming. The corolla, pleasantly ruffled, blooms in a gradient of absolutely magnificent violet, mauve, and purple tones, revealing a surprisingly blue throat. This marvel blooms in April-May, depending on the climate, offering solid, very durable flowers in the garden and in bouquets.

The 'Victoria's Secret' Tulip, introduced in 2013, belongs to the Lily family. Of horticultural origin, it is currently classified in the group of 'Triumph Tulips', perhaps due to the shape of its flower, quite narrow at blooming. However, it closely resembles parrot tulips with its large flowers composed of twisted, puffed, and fringed petals, whose thick and shiny texture reflects light admirably. 'Victoria's Secret' is also obtained by mutation (sudden appearance of new characteristics that are maintained in subsequent generations). It is of a beautiful size (45cm (18in) on average) and its very durable flower reaches 10cm (4in) in width. Its colour, without being purely violet, without any trace of green, hesitates between violet, mauve, burgundy, and magenta depending on the light. The more the flower develops, the more complex its colour becomes. The original shape of the parrot tulip adds additional charm, making this tulip anything but monotonous, especially when its buds slowly open in a vase, almost ceremoniously. In the sun, the large flowers open almost flat and reveal a truly blue heart from which the light yellow pistil emerges. The foliage is vigorous and bluish green.

Rich in colours, on stunning and variegated flowers, usable both in flower beds and to enhance your bouquets, the fame of parrot tulips is well established. In the 18th century, they were called 'monstrous'; this group developed greatly in the 1930s when it was discovered that irradiating bulbs with X-rays caused this mutation. Endowed with a very baroque charm, they are among the most unique varieties. Unmatched for bringing fantasy to pots or sunny gardens, don't forget to consider height and flowering period when designing your flower beds, as these parameters vary significantly from one cultivar to another. It is wise to plant a few more bulbs for cutting, as they make superb, long-lasting cut flowers. The 'Blue Parrot' flower pairs well with pastel blooms in pink tones ('Angelic'), white ('Maureen'), or mauve ('Shirley').

Planting and care

Place the parrot tulip 'Victoria's Secret' in a sunny location from October to December for a beautiful spring flowering. You can also place it in a partially shaded area. Plant the bulbs as soon as possible in a light, fertile, and well-drained soil that has been deeply loosened, at a depth of 15 cm (6in) (bulbs should be covered with twice their height in soil). Space the bulbs 10 cm (4in) apart, making sure they do not touch each other. Cut the flower stems after flowering. Allow the leaves to dry completely before cutting them.
