Description

The Tulip 'Partitura' is a variety derived from the forsteriana Tulip, which is distinguished by its two-tone yellow colour. Like other "fosteriana" varieties, it blooms early in the season and easily naturalises in favourable soil. Its elegantly shaped flower opens like a star with a black-spotted heart. With its short stem, this tulip is perfect for sunny borders.

Tulipa fosteriana is a very hardy botanical species native to Turkestan. Fosteriana Tulips belong to division 13 and are robust varieties: they are among the first tulips to bloom, sometimes as early as March 15th, and they naturalise and multiply easily, so there is no need to replace them regularly. The 'Partitura' variety was registered in 2009 by FA. D. van den Berg and Sons. It produces short, sturdy, 25-30 cm long stems, with a narrow cup-shaped corolla that blooms into a 12 cm star when fully open. The outside colour is a pale yellow streaked with a brighter yellow. The inside of the corolla is yellow, with black spots in the throat. Its wide leaves are slightly greyish-green. They will dry out a few weeks after flowering. The bulb goes into dormancy in summer and is perfectly drought-tolerant at that time.

The Fosteriana tulips can be planted in beds or borders. The taller ones make good cut flowers. Their lively colours go well with grape hyacinths and white or blue hyacinths. When designing your flower beds, don't forget to consider the height and flowering period, as these parameters can vary significantly from one cultivar to another. It is a good idea to plant a few extra bulbs as they make beautiful long-lasting cut flowers. The sunny flowers of 'Partitura' blend beautifully with the green-flamed corollas on a white background of 'Greenstar', for example.

Planting and care

Plant your 'Partitura' tulips as soon as possible in well-drained soil, even dry in summer. Loosen the soil deeply. Plant at a depth of 15 cm (Bulbs should be covered with twice their height of soil). Space the bulbs a few cm apart, making sure they do not touch. Choose a sunny exposure for better flowering. After flowering, cut the flower stems and let the leaves dry completely before cutting them. After flowering, their foliage becomes faded and unsightly, so we recommend planting perennials in the foreground of your beds, their foliage will enhance the colours of your tulips and then they will elegantly hide their yellowed leaves.
