Tulipa Sanne - Lily flowering Tulip
Tulipa Sanne - Lily flowering Tulip
I am writing this review after having had numerous occasions to contact Promesse de Fleurs. I bought a lot of bulbs in the autumn when they were on sale at a 50% discount. I didn't know that they were ALL bad. All the bulbs! It's clear that I wouldn't have bought them if I had known they were bad. Who sells bad bulbs, even at a reduced price?! The packages arrived wet and the paper bags they were placed in were opening up with powder, mold, and insects. The bulbs were not cleaned of their dirt and dried before being sent to me. I contacted them several times, having spent around 1000 euros on all these bulbs. Their first response was "well, it's because the soil is wet," and then when I explained to them that I hadn't even planted them all yet, the second response was "you're supposed to plant them as soon as they arrive." So what's the solution? That you're ripping me off? There were no apologies, no offer to replace what went wrong, no offer of a refund. Nothing.

The 'Sanne' Tulip, obtained in the Netherlands in 2006, is sometimes classified as lily-flowered due to the tapered shape of its large bicoloured flower. This variety, which bears a girl's name, also captivates with its very pleasant fragrance in bouquets. Its exquisite flower, with thick and iridescent substance, blooms in a gradient ranging from a fairly bright pink to white on the edges, then fades into more pastel tones, washed with lilac, bordered with cream, and warmed by more apricot nuances.
The 'Sanne' tulip belongs to the Liliaceae family. It is the result of cross-breeding between the highly fragrant 'Ballerina' lily-flowered tulip and the pure pink 'Peer Gynt' Triumph tulip. It is officially classified in Division 3 of horticultural tulips, which includes 15 varieties. Their main characteristics are as follows: they bear single, narrow, large flowers and bloom in mid-season, in April. This 'Sanne' tulip shows fairly narrow cup-shaped flowers with slightly pointed and recurved petals at opening and during the night, which open into star shapes at the end of their blooming. During the day, these flowers become spider-like and widely open. Their colour combines different shades of pink and white on the edges, evolving over the course of days. This variety will reach a height of 45cm (18in) when in bloom. The flowering takes place at the end of April or beginning of May. The foliage is thinner than that of other tulips. Each solitary flower is supported by a sturdy stem, resistant to bad weather.
The 'Sanne' tulip finds its place in large flower beds. Its freshness allows for associations with white or red tulips, creating a beautiful contrast. This also maximizes the duration of the flower bed's flowering. Combine it with Corsican hellebores and Euphorbias for surprising scenes. It can also be planted in borders, rockeries, flower beds, as well as in pots and planters. This tulip enhances balconies and terraces beautifully. It pairs perfectly with tall perennials and is ideal for creating both fragrant and elegant bouquets. When in a vase, use very little water, just enough to cover the bottom! Furthermore, if your tulips open too quickly, you can add two to three ice cubes to the vase each day. Many varieties of lily-flowered tulips are grown for forcing and produce cut flowers for a large part of the year.
Regarding botanical species: Tulip species are found from Western Europe to China and Japan, passing through Eastern Europe, Asia Minor, and Central Asia. Their distribution area also includes North Africa and the Indian subcontinent. The centre of diversity for the genus is located in the Pamir and Hindu Kush mountains and the steppes of Kazakhstan.

Botanical data
Plant the bulbs in autumn, from September to December, at a depth of 15cm (6in), spacing them 10cm (4in) apart. The planting should be done in ordinary soil, slightly acidic, neutral, or slightly alkaline, loose, well-worked, and well-drained. Never add undecomposed manure or compost to the planting soil, as that could cause the bulbs to rot. The 'Sanne' tulip will thrive in moist to dry soil in summer. Plant it in a sunny or partially shaded location. Once flowering is finished, it is preferable to remove the fruits to avoid exhausting the plant.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
