Description

The bulb of the multi-flowered Tulip 'Orange Bouquet' produces 3 to 7 rather unusual flowers, with orange and pointed petals marked with a green line. Its main stem branches into secondary stems, each carrying a flower at the end of the tulip season. The whole forms an elegant bouquet with a very natural appearance, far removed from the somewhat stiff habit that some tulips can have. It is perfect in bouquets, borders, flower beds, and containers.

The multi-flowered Tulip 'Orange Bouquet' belongs to the lily family. Of horticultural origin, multi-flowered tulips have a branched flower stem that has several smaller flowers over a more staggered flowering period. Perched on 45 cm (18in) tall stems well above the broadly lanceolate leaves, the elegant, bright orange flowers are marked by a tender green midline. They begin in the shape of a narrow cup and open up into wide corollas, with six petals, tapered at the ends.  They flower in May, at the end of the tulip season.

The multi-flowered tulip 'Orange Bouquet' fits well in all sunny flower beds. Its elegance mixes well with white or red tulips, to create a beautiful harmony. Combine it with daffodils, jonquils, hyacinths, or even Corsican hellebores, lady's mantles, and euphorbias, for original compositions. It can also be planted in borders, rockeries, flower beds, pots and containers. This tulip looks beauriful on balconies and terraces. It pairs perfectly with tall perennials such as peonies and is ideal for creating elegant bouquets. In a vase, very little water at the bottom is enough! If your tulips open too quickly, you can add two to three ice cubes to the vase every day.

Planting and care

Plant 'Orange Bouquet' tulip bulbs in the autumn, from September to December, at a depth of 15 cm (6in), 10 cm (4in) apart in ordinary, slightly acidic, neutral, or slightly alkaline, loose, well-worked, and well-draining soil. Never add poorly decomposed manure or compost to the planting soil, as this could cause the bulbs to rot. Tulips will grow well in soil which is moist to dry in summer, in a sunny or partially shaded location. Once flowering is over, it is best to remove the seed heads to avoid exhausting the plant.
