Description

Tulipa 'Green Spirit' is an invigorating viridiflora variety that combines white and light green on its elongated flower. Like all Viridiflora tulips, its flowers, tinged with green, live and remain beautiful for up to 3 weeks. Plant it in large groups in your flower beds and create big bouquets by mixing its flowers with peonies, for example.

The viridiflora Tulip 'Green Spirit' belongs to the Liliaceae family. Of horticultural origin, introduced in 2015, it is currently classified in Division 8, which is the least significant group, closely related to that of late single tulips. The main characteristics of Viridiflora are late flowering and striped or flamed green flowers. The 'Green Spirit' variety will reach a height of between 40 and 60 cm when in bloom. Perched on sturdy stems, well above the broadly lanceolate leaves, the flowers are narrow, 9 cm tall cups. Their six "petals" (more precisely tepals) are finely flamed with light green on a white background tinged with cream. At maturity, the flower opens, revealing a white interior striped with green and a yellow throat. Flowering takes place at the end of May or in June, depending on the climate. Another advantage of the Viridiflora Tulip is that its flowers remain beautiful for a long time, at least three weeks. It is an excellent cut flower.

Tulipa 'Green Spirit', with its discreet colour, is an excellent complement to all plants. It will enhance red, orange, and pink tones. It can be associated with both biennials and perennials or planted in small touches in rockeries. You can plant forget-me-nots, lady's mantle, Nepeta 'Kit Cat' alongside it... It is a charming asset for your flower beds.

Planting and care

Plant 'Green Spirit' Viridiflora tulip bulbs in autumn, from September to December, at a depth of 15 cm, spacing them 10 cm apart in ordinary, slightly acidic, neutral, or slightly alkaline, loose, well-worked, and well-drained soil. Never add manure or poorly decomposed compost to the planting soil, as this could cause the bulbs to rot. The 'Green Spirit' tulip will thrive in moist to dry soil in summer. Place it in a sunny or partially shaded location. Once flowering is complete, remove the seed heads to avoid exhausting the bulb.
