Mixed review. Clearly, it is not the ordered variety. It bloomed a month earlier than expected (early April instead of May), the shape and colors (bright yellow streaked with red without the typical green vein of viridiflora) rather resemble a triumph (Helmar, Augusta Taurisorum?). Moreover, out of 6 bulbs, I only saw 4 leafy shoots and... 1 single flower emerge. Upon receipt, the bulbs seemed healthy; they were replanted within the week and under good conditions. Quite disappointing, really... Translation analysis: - "variété" = "variety" - "fleur" = "flower" - "feuillu" = "leafy" - "pousse" = "shoot" - "plantes" = "field of plants" - "nu" = "naked" - "plant" = "young plant

The semi-double flowers of this recent tulip resemble those of the famous variety 'Spring Green'. They are cream-white with apple-green flames, but they are enhanced by pretty red flames. Unique and long-lasting in the garden as well as in a vase, they are all different and bloom late, in May.

Description

Tulipa viridiflora 'Flaming Spring Green' is a worthy descendant of the wonderful variety 'Spring Green'. Just like its predecessor, its semi-double, globular flowers are creamy-white and streaked with apple-green, but they are enhanced by pretty red flames that dance. Unique and long-lasting in the garden and in vases, each flower is unique. They bloom late, in May, but are definitely worth the wait.

Tulipa 'Flaming Spring Green' belongs to the Liliaceae family. Of horticultural origin, it was obtained in the Netherlands in 1999. It is currently classified in Division 8, known for flowering late in the season and having flowers streaked or flamed with green. The 'Flaming Spring Green' variety will reach 45cm (18in) in height when in bloom. The flowers appear at the top of the sturdy stems, well above the broadly lanceolate leaves. The cup-shaped flowers, 12cm (5in) wide, often have more than 6 petals. Variegated randomly with green and red on a creamy-white background, they form a unique and attractive combination. The flower opens into a large, colourful star when mature. Flowering takes place in May, at the end of the tulip season. Its flowers remain beautiful for a long time, at least three good weeks. It is an excellent cut flower.

Tulipa 'Flaming Spring Green' is very hardy and can ideally be grown in groups in flower beds to bring undeniable charm to the garden. It can accompany both biennials and perennials, or be planted in small patches in rockeries. You can plant it with daisies, forget-me-nots, fleabanes, or pink pansies. The flowers are perfect for creating bouquets full of personality. Create beautiful displays with fern leaves and grass spikes as they also have an excellent vase life

Tulips in their natural state can be found from Western Europe to China and Japan, passing through Eastern Europe, Asia Minor, and Central Asia. Their distribution range also includes North Africa and the Indian subcontinent.

Planting and care

Plant the bulbs in autumn, from September to December. Choose a sunny or partially shaded location. Plant in ordinary, slightly acidic, neutral, or slightly alkaline, loose, well-worked, and well-draining soil. Tulips do not like stagnant moisture. Never add poorly decomposed manure or compost to the planting soil, as this could cause the bulbs to rot. Plant the bulbs at a depth of 15cm (6in), spacing them 10cm (4in) apart. The bulbs will grow well in moist to dry soil in summer. Once flowering is finished, it is wise to remove the fruits to avoid exhausting the plant.
