Very disappointed with these bulbs, half of them are in a pitiful state, fit for throwing away.

Description

The 'Green Love' Viridiflora Tulip is a recent variety that will delight flower enthusiasts with its exotic charm. Its flower, ranging from red-pink to dark pink, is streaked with green throughout the height of the petals, forming a pattern that accentuates its stylised curve. Planted in groups or in large bouquets, this tulip creates a superb mass effect towards the end of the tulip season. It establishes itself well in the garden.

The 'Green Love' Viridiflora Tulip belongs to the Liliaceae family. Of horticultural origin, introduced in 2018, it is currently classified in Division 8, which is currently the least significant group, closely related to late single tulips. Their main characteristics are late season flowering and flowers streaked or streaked with green. The 'Green Love' variety will reach approximately 40 cm (16in) in height when flowering. Perched on sturdy stems, well above the broadly lanceolate leaves, the narrow cup-shaped flowers, 6 cm (2in) wide, somewhat resemble those of Lily-flowered Tulips. But their six "petals" (more precisely tepals) are more irregular and entirely variegated with green in the centre. At maturity, the flower opens widely into a star, revealing a yellow and green throat. Flowering occurs at the end of May or in June, depending on the climate. Another advantage of the Viridiflora Tulip is that its flowers remain beautiful for a long time, at least three good weeks. It is an excellent cut flower.

The 'Green Love' Viridiflora Tulip can be associated with both biennials and perennials or planted in small groups in rock gardens. You can plant daisies, chamomiles, forget-me-nots, lady's mantles, catmints and other favourites next to it. It is a charming addition to your flower beds.

Tulip species are found from Western Europe to China and Japan, passing through Eastern Europe, Asia Minor, and Central Asia. Their distribution area also includes North Africa and the Indian subcontinent. The centre of diversity of the genus is located in the Pamir and Hindu Kush mountains and the steppes of Kazakhstan.

In France, there are various wild species, many of which are endangered. These are either large adventive tulips from cultivated fields, the most well-known being the Agen Tulip (Tulipa agenensis), or small tulips found in wooded areas or among rocks in the mountains. In cultivation, they are called "botanical tulips," and one of the most common is the wild tulip (Tulipa sylvestris), which used to often grow sheltered by vineyards and whose subspecies australis is known as the southern tulip.

Planting and care

Plant the bulbs in autumn, from September to December, at a depth of 15 cm (6in), spacing them 10 cm (4in) apart. The planting should be done in ordinary soil, slightly acidic, neutral, or slightly alkaline, loose, well-worked, and well-drained. Never add uncomposted manure or compost to the planting soil, as this could cause the bulbs to rot. The 'Green Love' tulip will grow well in moist to dry soil in summer. Plant it in a sunny or semi-shaded location. Once flowering is complete, it is advisable to remove the fruits to avoid depleting the plant.
