Description

A collection of 3 Decorative Dahlias in vibrant colours! Their flowers, with varying shapes, single, double, or pompon, bloom abundantly for 4 months. One will appreciate the warm range of oranges that are a magnificent contrast against the dark foliage. These Dahlias have their place in shrub and perennial beds, in pots on the terrace, but also in homemade bouquets, with old roses for example.

This collection consists of:

-1x Decorative Dahlia 'Motto': large, double flowers with tapered petals, in a very bright salmon-orange colour. This medium-sized dahlia reaches a height of about 90cm (35in).

1x Landscape Dahlia 'Catherine Deneuve': simple flowers with silky petals in a soft orange colour, sublime against the dark purple to bronze foliage. Height of 60cm (24in).

1x Ball Dahlia 'Bantling': exquisite flowers, with a general shape of a large pompom, in a very pure bright orange colour, fading slightly over time, transforming the bush into a bouquet of shades of orange and yellow-orange. The buds follow one another from July to October and bloom above dark green foliage. Height of 90cm (35in).

To encourage repeat flowering, make sure to remove faded flowers, or even better, regularly make large colourful bouquets by combining them with other varieties. With their flowers of pure colours, the dahlias that make up this collection combine particularly well with white and pale yellow flowers, or even blue ones. In beds, they will create warm and bright spots alongside Asters, for example, which bloom at the same time, as well as grasses at their peak of beauty or Echinaceas. They also allow for enhancing bouquets until late in the season.

As the star of borders and ornamental gardens, Dahlias confidently accompany the most beautiful flowers but are also appreciated alongside vegetables. In Mexico, this tuberous plant was first cultivated as a root vegetable to be consumed. But its poor taste qualities assigned it the rank of an ornamental plant. Since then, the interest in their beautiful exuberance has never waned.

Planting and care

Plant your dahlias in the springtime in deeply worked and enriched soil, for example with bonemeal. Place your tuber in a hole and crumble the soil well to fill without any air pockets. Your dahlia should be covered with 6 cm (2in) of soil. At the end of planting, pour one litre of water. Water regularly during the first 6 weeks to help with rooting. Dahlias are sensitive to cold, so they need to be overwintered. In November, the first frosts will darken the foliage, which is the time to dig them up. Carefully remove the tubers, taking off as much soil as possible. Let the foliage dry out so that the tuber can replenish its reserves. When the foliage is dry, cut the stems 10cm (4in) from the tuber. Spread your bulbs in a box on newspaper. Store in a frost-free, dry, cool, and dark place.
