Description

The garden tea is an annual ornamental and aromatic herbaceous plant. It is cultivated for its anise-flavored foliage, which imparts flavor to meats and fish, but is also consumed as a herbal tea for its antioxidant effects. Garden tea has digestive, antiseptic, and immune-stimulating properties.

Garden tea will require a supply of well-decomposed compost (3kg/m²) in late autumn or early spring.

 

Harvest: The leaves are harvested from April to October by cutting the branches.

Storage: Dry the branches in the shade and store them in a dry place.

Gardener's tip: Perform regular weeding and hoeing.

Planting and care

Sowing

Sow by broadcasting or in a row spaced 25cm (10in) apart. Dig a furrow 1cm (0in) deep, place the seeds at the bottom of the furrow and then cover with fine soil or compost. Firmly press down with the back of a rake, water.

 Thin out the young plants when they reach 10cm (4in) and keep one every 25cm (10in).

 

Maintenance

Regularly perform hoeing and weeding. Water moderately.
