Description

Purple Top Milan is a fast-growing red Milan turnip. This turnip produces flat-topped roots that are white in color with a purple crown. It ripens quickly and is a popular variety in northern regions. It is recommended by the National Institute of Agricultural Botany. The roots, as well as the green tops, are rich in vitamin C and fiber. When cooked, the turnips retain their nutrients. The Purple Top Milan Turnip is suitable for early sowing under cloches. Sow the seeds from May to July outdoors.

Planting and care

Sow directly into finely raked and enriched soil, preferably limestone, from April to August. Cover the sowing with a good cm of soil and lightly firm it down. Seedlings will appear after 6 to 10 days. You can thin out overcrowded seedlings, leaving one plant every 20 cm (8in) or so. Sow every 15 days to enjoy young turnips throughout the summer and autumn. Water regularly with a fine spray. You can start harvesting 8 to 10 weeks after sowing.
