More information

This mixture of annual and perennial plants, very resistant and adapted to dry soils, limits the proliferation of weeds while adding colour to the base of walls. The seeds are preferably sown in September-October or, at worst, in spring, in levelled and well-prepared soil. The plants establish themselves in the long term and their flowering lasts from April to September.

Description

This Base of Wall Meadow Flower Mix brings together 16 species of perennial or annual plants to sow at the foot of walls to limit the appearance of "weeds". Very resistant, and well adapted to dry and poor soils, they form a massif that remains attractive for several years. The seeds are preferably sown in late summer in the sun, in well-levelled and prepared soil. The low massif thus created will flower throughout the summer season and some plants will self-seed from year to year.

All the plants in this mix show rather rapid growth and establish themselves very easily in well-drained, and even poor and fairly dry soil. Their flowering is generally staggered from April to September once all the species are established. The height of the plants does not exceed 50 cm (19.7 in).

Partial composition: hare's tail grass (Lagurus ovatus), California poppy (Eschscholtzia), violet (Viola), yarrow (Achillea millefolium).

This meadow flower mix is very trendy, and it combines usefulness with pleasure: flowering throughout the summer season, it restores ecological balance, promotes biodiversity, competes with weeds and requires very little maintenance. Watering if the weather is very dry and cutting to 10 cm (3.9 in) in autumn will be more than enough. Invite nature into your garden: sow our flower mixes under trees and shrubs, along paths, near the vegetable garden, or on the embankment bordering a sunken path, near your fruit trees, or at the back of the garden bordering the countryside.

Planting and care

Sowing:

Sow directly in place, preferably in September-October or, at worst, in March-April, in level, well-worked soil that has been cleared of weeds and raked. Sow thinly on the surface of the soil by broadcasting, then lightly rake to cover the seeds. Roll or tamp down the soil with the back of a spade. Water and keep moist until germination. Germination normally takes 14 to 30 days.

Cultivation:

When young plants appear, water well and remove weeds. In autumn, at the end of flowering, seeds can be collected and sown elsewhere. Water well to make the seeds adhere to the soil. Once the plants are well established, water your bed only in case of prolonged drought. Cut or mow to 10 cm (3.9 in) above the ground at the end of the season, without removing the pruning waste. The faded inflorescences bear seeds that will spontaneously reseed themselves in situ or elsewhere in the garden.
