Sown directly into the ground on lightly prepared soil in March, the plants have grown well and produced their first flowers by the end of May. They are very beautiful, and I let them spread freely in the garden. They can grow quite tall, around 50-70cm (20-28in). There are blues, reds, yellows, flax, poppies, and more.

Description

This Flower Meadow mix to attract ladybirds is a very pretty mix of seeds from different flowers that will allow you to attract and maintain this very useful insect in the garden. It is a natural, ecological, and particularly effective way to regulate aphid populations because this selection of flowers attracts, feeds, and retains ladybirds.

The Flower Meadow mix to attract ladybirds is sown on the edge of the vegetable garden, in the orchard, and even in containers from March to May, for flowering from June to September.

The use of flowers and insect shelters is part of the practice of ICM or Integrated Pest Management: a set of practices that aims to create a biological balance in the garden, allowing it to remain healthy.

Gardener's tip: to easily obtain a beautiful meadow, we recommend the "false sowing" technique: 15 days to 3 weeks before sowing, prepare your soil by loosening and raking it finely. Water and wait for the weed seeds to wake up and germinate. When they reach the seedling stage, destroy them with a hoe and then proceed with the final sowing.

Planting and care

Preparing the ground before sowing a flower meadow

Preparing the plot to be sown is an important step. It should be weeded well if necessary (the most foresighted will cover the ground with cardboard a few months before), then loosen and rake it in order to obtain a beautiful seedbed.

Sowing

You will then sow the seeds by broadcasting and cover them using a rake to stop birds eating them. Perform initial watering with a fine mist so that the soil remains moist until germination.

To perpetuate your meadow, let the annual flowers go to seed before mowing.
