I really like cacti, and I'm looking forward to being able to sow them following the advice.

Description

The strangeness and beauty of this mixture of cacti makes them fascinating. Cylindrical, globular, with articulated rods, etc. their varied and unique shapes add to their exoticism.

Cacti are succulents or perennial plants belonging to the Cactaceae family, originate from the hot and dry arid regions of North, Central and South America. Once imported, they have adapted wonderfully to other regions of the world in Asia and Australia in particular. Beneath their aspect, often bristling with fierce or silky thorns, they display an undeniable adaptability in the face of extreme climatic conditions.

The presence of areolas is the undeniable certification that they belong to the cati family. These areolas are the result of an adaptation which reveals itself sometimes throught small growths, branches, thorns or small bristles, even flowers. It stores liquids in its membranes and only opens its stomata at night when the risk of evaporation is minimal.

In this mixture, you will get both fast and slow growing varieties. Some will reach 10 cm height others will grow width depending on the variety. Some will even honor you with their flowers. Seeing a flower appear on a cacti that you have grown yourself is arguably one of the most rewarding experiences.

Fans of succulents will combine different forms of cacti to reshape their original lunar landscapes. In a greenhouse, in a winter garden or a well-protected patio, it is possible to grow them with Euphorbia obesa, Pachyphytum also poetically named porcelain flowers, Pleiosplitos nelii or plant rocks.

Planting and care

Most cacti are much easier to grow than you might think but they require constant care. Sowing is the easiest way to see them evolve. Anytime of the year, sow them indoors in a mixture of 'special cacti' and sand, at a room temperature ideally hinging around 23 ° C. In their natural environment, the difference between night and day temperatures is important. For their comfort, make sure that your house's temperature is as high as possible, especially during germination time. The seeds germinate in full light, do not cover them and space them in rows of 10 cm appart. Then moisten the substrate very slightly. Be careful to place them as much as possible in sunlight. Additional light source can be suitable. Hygrometry must remain as low as possible. As soon as the plants are 2 to 3 cm hight you can repot them. Germination usually takes up to 30 days.
