Amaranthus tricolor, commonly known as Joseph’s Coat, Elephant-head Amaranth or Chinese Spinach, is an annual plant that belongs to the Amaranthaceae family. Amaranthus is the Greek word for "unfading" as flowers and leaves hold their colour remarkably well. 'Garden Select' regularly puts out fresh growth whilst the older leaves keep their colour as they dry. Unlike some members of its family such as A. caudatus, its discreet flowers go rather unnoticed as they are greatly upstaged by the abundant, brightly coloured leaves which give the plant the appearance of a parrot with ruffled feathers.

With its warm, bright colours and luxuriant, bushy habit, Joseph's Coat 'Garden Select' will bring a cheerful, slightly exotic note to arrangements and perennial flower beds alongside ornamental grasses.
