As other customers have already experienced, out of the 2 packets of seeds ordered and received, one contained very few seeds. Otherwise, the germination has been excellent.

Description

This always flowering Begonia or Begonia semperflorens, is a dwarf variety with satin flowers and tender colors. It comes from the Brazilian varieties Begonia cucullata and Begonia schmidtiana. As its name suggests, it blooms continuously all summer from June to September. This begoniaceae is cultivated in our latitudes as an annual plant because it does not support even the mildest winters. Indeed, temperatures below 10 ° C are generally fatal.

With its compact bearing and its 20 cm height, Begonia semperflorens turns out to be a superb ground cover. Its fleshy leaves will be, depending on the plants, dark green, purple brown or even bronze. They are oval or cordate and often asymmetrical. Be careful with the stems, they are fragile and brittle. As for the flowers, they may, depending on the plants, be adorned with salmon, white or yellow, or sometimes offer us the brightest reds. Their common character is the satin appearance of the petals and the dismorphism of the flowers: begonias are monoecious and bear flowers with exclusively male attributes (single flowers) and other female (double flowers).

It is not very hardy and it is for this reason that it is so often cultivated in containers easy to enter in greenhouses or under verandas heated from the first frost. To make it happy, plant it in a mixture of peat and heather soil and then expose it to the sun or partial shade. Remove faded flowers to encourage new blooms.
