Description

The Coléus 'Pinto Mix' offers a stunning mix of colours. It's an intense festival of fluorescent lime green, magenta, pink, rust, and purple. The leaves are plain or speckled, spotted, splashed, and adorned with a pretty scalloped edge. Coleus is a herbaceous plant grown as an annual in the garden due to its low hardiness or as a perennial indoors. Outdoors, grow it in bright partial shade to prevent its foliage from being damaged by harsh sunlight.

Coleus, also known as Solenostemon, recently renamed Plectranthus, are plants related to Basil and nettle. They belong to the Lamiaceae family, as indicated by their small two-lipped flowers with elongated lower lip, fleshy square-sectioned stems, and toothed leaves which are hairy on the underside. This genus comprises around sixty species of tender shrubby perennials, native to Asia and tropical Africa. Horticulture has given rise to numerous hybrids and cultivars, among which many are descendants of Solenostemon scutellarioides.

'Pinto Mix' is designed to bring colour and light to pots or borders with an intense festival of colours! Coleus are easy to grow from seeds and, with minimal care, will thrive from spring to the first frosts. They will reach 50 cm in height and 30 cm in width. Coleus produce small pink flowers from June to October, but are mainly grown for the sumptuous colours of their variegated foliage.

With its robust constitution, 'Pinto Mix' is ideal as a focal point in a border or as a complement to other plants to enhance them. The intensity of light it receives will directly affect the colouration of its foliage. Equally happy in a pot as in the ground, indoors as well as outdoors, they are the epitome of versatility. It will appreciate light and rich soil. In the garden, place it at the edge of a border with tall perennials or shrubs, or in a cool rockery. They can be associated with flowering plants like begonias in flowering pots, for a beautiful contrast and a foliage setting. Their rich colours are such that they are quite difficult to pair, and in such a colourful mix, they stand out on their own, but they can be used with other plain foliage plants like ferns, for a more serene combination. They are also beautiful indoor plants.
