A variety of Cosmos with large, bold purple-pink flowers. It adds lightness and elegance to flower beds and is an excellent choice for country meadows or natural areas. From July until the first frosts, its single flowers with large, round petals surrounding a yellow centre rise above finely cut foliage. They are perfect for creating light, graceful bouquets. This annual is as generous as it is easy to grow, thriving easily in all soil types even in relatively dry conditions.

Description

The Giant Sensation Picotee Cosmos is an annual variety with giant flowers that have white petals edged with bright carmine pink.

 

Native to Mexico, Cosmos bipinnatus is an annual that blooms from mid-July to autumn.

The Sensation Picotee variety has large flowers 8 to 10cm (3.1 - 3.9 in) in diameter, with white petals edged with bright carmine pink.

This variety has pinnatisect leaves (symmetrical to the midrib) that are medium green in colour and resemble fern leaves. The Giant Sensation Picotee Cosmos grows up to 80cm (31.5 in) to 1m (3.3 ft).

The Cosmos bipinnatus is highly branched and suitable for borders and flower beds and can even be used as cut flowers. It is planted during spring between March and May. It has rapid growth.

Cosmos is highly appreciated by bees. In the language of flowers, the word cosmos signifies innocence.

Sow the seeds of the Giant Sensation Picotee Cosmos in full sun or partial shade in moderately fertile, neutral, well-drained and humus-bearing soil. Sow the seeds from March to May for a flowering period from July to autumn. Growing this plant is easy but can also be prone to aphids. The Sensation Picotee Cosmos enjoys watering in the summer but is still a relatively drought-tolerant plant.
