The 'Foxy Mix' Foxglove is a selection of Digitalis purpurea that offers a mix of shades of pink, lavender, apricot-yellow, cream, and white. The throats of the flowers are dotted with purple. Plants grown from seeds flower in the second year, from late spring to early summer, but in this selection, they can flower in the first year, with slightly shorter and sturdier spikes. These easy-to-grow plants thrive in moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil, exposed to the sun or partial shade. They are perfect for borders and large beds, while also suitable for beautiful containers on the terrace.
The mix of 'Foxy Mix' Foxgloves is derived from Digitalis purpurea, a wild plant in the Scrophulariaceae family. It is a biennial herbaceous plant, sometimes short-lived perennial, developing a large rosette of 45 cm in diameter from spring, with hairy, dark green, crinkled and toothed leaves, whose undersides are wrinkled in a network. They are covered with slightly woolly, very light hairs. After a few months, usually in May-June, several sturdy, hollow floral stems emerge from each rosette. They reach an average height of 85 cm from the ground (between 70 cm and 1 m). The inflorescences, at the top of the stems, are dense spikes filled with numerous large tubular flowers, blooming from bottom to top. Each bell-shaped flower attracts many pollinating insects, tirelessly feeding on nectar and pollen. By regularly removing faded flowers, the flowering can renew in successive waves until September.
The 'Foxy Mix' Foxglove selection is perfect for edges, sparse copses, or alpine gardens. It tolerates root competition provided the soil does not dry out too much in summer. In northern regions, it enjoys sunny spots, while in the south, it prefers partial shade and coolness. Ideal for planting at the base of hedges or shrub beds, it offers abundant flowering. It pairs beautifully with bellflowers, columbines, rose bushes, or even the annual poppy 'Applegreen'. Its flowers also look stunning in bouquets, especially paired with delphiniums or white Chinese peonies.
Caution, the plant is toxic if ingested, after handling, it is important to wash hands thoroughly.
Caution, seeds reserved for experienced gardeners used to sowing very fine seeds. These seeds are as fine as dust, barely visible to the naked eye.

Sow Foxy Mix foxglove seeds from January to May, on the surface of a good, humus-bearing soil, well-draining, and place it at a temperature of 18-29°C. Lightly cover the seeds with vermiculite. Place in a propagator or a transparent plastic bag until the seeds germinate, which usually takes 14 to 30 days. Keep the seedlings close to the light, as this facilitates germination. Transplant the young plants when they are large enough to handle into 8 cm diameter trays or pots. Gradually acclimatise the plants to cooler conditions for a few weeks before planting them after all risk of frost, maintaining a spacing of 45 to 60 cm between each plant. Foxgloves from early sowings may sometimes flower in the first year.
Purple foxgloves and their varieties prefer semi-shade and a rather acidic, light, humus-bearing soil, not too rich. They are very hardy plants, but their lifespan is quite short. They do not tolerate dry soils. They self-seed abundantly in the garden, but the resulting plants are rarely identical to the parent plants when it comes to horticultural selections.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
