Calendula Powerdaisy Sunny is a brand-new hybrid marigold, awarded third place at the Chelsea Power Show in 2016. It stands out with an exceptionally long and abundant flowering, from spring to autumn, in the form of small double to semi-double daisies of a bright golden yellow, producing no seeds. This flowering covers a dome of dark green, evergreen vegetation, which looks impeccable throughout the season. It has good resistance to both diseases and challenging weather conditions. A fantastic plant for containers and borders, it is also stunning in hanging baskets. Grow it in well-drained soil, in full sun or partial shade.
Â
Calendula Powerdaisy Sunny is a new horticultural hybrid developed in England. The sterile plant is the result of cross-breeding between C. officinalis, the common marigold, C. maritima (a rare species), and C. suffruticosa, with a shrubby habit. All these plants are relatives of marigolds and belong to the Asteraceae family.
Calendula Powerdaisy Sunny is a hardy annual herbaceous plant, resistant down to -10°C (14°F). It quickly forms a beautiful bushy and ramified clump from the base, about 40cm (15.7 in) in all directions, covered with slightly aromatic dark green foliage, tinged with olive-green. The flowering extends from April (sometimes as early as March) to October-November, requiring no particular pruning. Its flowers are double heads, displaying a uniform bright yellow, all the way to the centre of the inflorescence.
Â
Resistant to drought, rain, and bad weather, and decorative with its flowering and foliage for 9 months out of 12, this new calendula is perfect for every garden and climate. It requires very little maintenance and works wonders as ground cover, in sunny borders, in flower pots, and hanging baskets. It can be planted in small touches amidst the grey foliage of artemisias and stachys, with Californian poppies, and red or blue shrubby salvias. Alternatively, surround it by greenery, by combining it with tansies, Kochia childsii, or small grasses that will temper its glowing hue. Calendula is also an edible flower, to be enjoyed in moderation, which can be eaten in salads, soups, or desserts. Some believe that its flavour resembles that of pepper.
Note: please be advised that our plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners. Upon receipt, repot and store them in sheltered areas (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2 °F) for a few weeks before being planted outdoors once all risk of frost has passed.

Botanical data
Calendula are fast-growing plants that thrive in the sun or partial shade in warm climates, and in sheltered locations. This hardy Powerdaisy Sunny hybrid variety can tolerate temperatures as low as -10°C (14°F), but can also adapt to less favourable growing conditions (cool and humid climates) as long as it is planted in well-drained, fairly fertile, and light soil. Since flowering does not result in the formation of seeds, it is not necessary to remove faded flowers, except for aesthetic reasons. Protect the plants from slugs and snails, as they are fond of them.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
