More information

A beautiful new arrival, distinguished by the beauty of its large star-shaped flowers with an iridescent violet colour punctuated by a yellow eye. A perennial cultivated as an annual in our climate, this Laurentia forms a cushion adorned with finely cut foliage and blooms from July to October. It is a plant of texture and contrast, ideal for adorning hanging baskets, planters, and borders. This particularly heat-resistant variety is also very beneficial as it is rich in nectar.

Description

Isotoma 'Fizz'n Pop Glowing Purple' is the leader of a new line of Isotoma with large, shiny flowers, even more decorative and heat-resistant than usual varieties. This beautiful novelty is adorned with star-shaped flowers of iridescent violet-purple punctuated with a yellow eye almost three times larger than those of classic Laurentia and particularly rich in nectar. Cultivated as a perennial in our climates, this infinitely graceful little plant forms a cushion adorned with very finely cut foliage and blooms until autumn. Install itat the edge of a bed or in hanging baskets and planters on the terrace, and let the charm work.

Originally from Australia, Solenopsis axillaris is a fast-growing herbaceous perennial plant with a woody base, often cultivated as an annual due to its lack of hardiness, but also for its long and abundant flowering. It is a member of the Campanulaceae family. The 'Glowing Purple' variety has recently been selected by Thompson & Morgan for the size of its flowers and its ease of cultivation, even in hot climates. It quickly forms a well-branched, naturally compact and beautifully rounded clump, measuring 25 to 30cm (10 to 12in) in all directions. Its narrow, tapered, finely cut and toothed evergreen leaves are dark green. Between July and October, and even until the first frosts, its countless 5-pointed flowers with tapered lobes, arranged in a 3.5cm (1in) diameter star shape, succeed each other. They are slightly fragrant and very popular with pollinating insects. This plant is resistant to heat and drought, but will be more floriferous in fertile, moist soil.

Isotoma Fizz'n Pop Glowing Purple is an easy-to-grow and very floriferous plant, interesting for its light texture and heat resistance. Decorative with its brilliant purple flowers, it can be used in flower beds among other plants, en masse in borders, and of course in pots, hanging baskets, and planters. It blends well with a wide variety of other annual or perennial plants such as begonias, petunias, Bacopas, Nemophila, pink Gypsophila, or with geraniums, for example, lightening their silhouette. It is a beautiful rockery plant, which can be combined with Osteospermum, poppies, dahlias, or even roses in shades of orange, pink, or white.

Note: Attention, our young plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them under shelter (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14C° for a few weeks before being installed outdoors once the risk of frost has definitively passed.

Planting and care

Isotoma requires very little maintenance and is content with a sunny exposure. Install it in the garden after the last frosts. Ensure that the plant does not lack water and remove faded flowers from time to time. Water-efficient, it will, however, be more floriferous and more beautiful when planted in soil that remains slightly moist. In a very mild climate, it shows as a perennial, but it is advisable to overwinter the plant if you want to keep it from one year to the next. Repot it and keep it in a veranda or cold greenhouse in winter. Attention: the sap of this plant can be irritating to certain individuals. Slugs and snails enjoy its foliage: be sure to protect your young plants in spring.
