Description

This Diascia 'Breezee Plus White' is a vigorous, early-flowering and very floriferous selection, easy to combine. It tirelessly offers, from spring until the first frosts, above its small heart-shaped green leaves, a profusion of small double-spurred, white flowers. This delightful annual will form beautiful columns or border suspensions and planters. It will also make lovely low borders, it is very attractive in rockeries, or cascading casually over walls. A plant to use without moderation in well-drained soil, in non-scorching sun.

Diascia 'Breezee Plus White' belongs to the family of Scrophulariaceae, it is a cultivar derived from Diascia barberae, native to southern Africa, Lesotho, and KwaZulu-Natal. This plant has a spreading habit, forming a small bush 25cm (9.8in) tall and 15cm (5.9in) wide. The very early flowering starts in early spring and only ends with the first frosts. It produces clusters of small white flowers with broad lips, extended downwards by two spurs. The diameter of the flowers does not exceed 1cm. These flowers somewhat resemble snapdragons. The foliage, deciduous to semi-evergreen depending on the climate, is composed of small heart-shaped leaves, 2cm (0.8in) long, medium green.

Diascia 'Breezee Plus White' can be used in the ground and in pots, alone or mixed with other low-growing species such as Lithodora, silver baskets, and Aubrietas. Given its bushy habit, both upright and cascading, it will look good in beds, borders, ground cover, rockeries, planters, or hanging baskets, in the gaps between walls and paving stones. This plant will look stunning when planted in a flower column, accompanied by other varieties such as Diascia 'Breezee Plus Orange' or Diascia 'Breezee Plus Pastel'.

Note: Attention, our plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them under shelter (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14C° for a few weeks before being installed outdoors once the risk of frost is definitively excluded.

Planting and care

Install your Diascia 'Breezee Plus White' in a fertile soil to support flowering, moist to occasionally dry, humus-bearing, perfectly drained in winter. This young plant dreads stagnant humidity. The further south you go, the more the plant fears the scorching afternoon sun and dry soils. It is helpful to pinch the terminal shoots to accentuate the habit. Cut back faded stems after flowering. This Diascia is hardy up to approximately -8°C (46.4°F), in a perfectly drained soil. In winter, outside mild climate regions, it is advisable to shelter this tender plant in a cold greenhouse or unheated conservatory.
