The Begonia 'Belleconia Citrus' brings its lovely lemon yellow colour to the excellent series of trailing Begonias 'Belleconia'. This variety produces large, truly bright double flowers throughout the beautiful season, on a well compact and floriferous plant that works wonders in hanging baskets. In addition to its ornamental qualities, it is a heat-resistant variety, easy to grow in partial shade or shade, requiring very little maintenance : the faded flowers eliminate themselves.
The Begonia 'Belleconia Citrus' is an annual herbaceous plant belonging to the begonia family. This variety is part of a series of recent hybrids, selected for their trailing habit, naturally compact and branched, their floribundity, their imposing and double flowers, as well as for their great resistance. The plants, very bushy, quickly reach 30-40 cm (11.8 - 15.7 in) in height and cascade from 80 cm (31.5 in) to 1 m (3.3 ft) in height. Their abundant and prolonged flowering extends from June to September, despite the heat and bad weather. Their elegant flowers, 5 cm (2 in) wide, are fully double, composed of many small petals that form like a pompom on a row of larger petals. The plant also bears simple and smaller flowers, cream yellow in colour. They are enhanced by elegant elongated triangular-shaped leaves, with dentate edges, dark green in colour. The Belleconia begonias appreciate partial shade and morning sun, they tolerate rainy and cool summers as well as heatwaves, which do not prevent them from blooming abundantly if they are regularly watered. In these 'Belleconia' begonias, the faded flowers naturally fall.
Begonia 'Belleconia Citrus' is ideal in partial shade, in the garden as well as in pots. It can be used in troughs, balcony planters or hanging baskets, alone or mixed with other varieties in large hanging baskets. Begonias are also very comfortable in well-maintained flowerbeds, in the company of lighter flowers. Finally, it is good to know that there are hardy begonias, such as the Begonia grandis.
Note: Attention, our young plants in mini-pots are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them under cover (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14C° for a few weeks before being installed outdoors once all risk of frost has passed.

Botanical data
Plant your Belleconia begonias after the last heavy frosts, either in the ground or in a pot. Choose a location in the morning sun or partial shade. They should be placed in a well-drained, fertile soil, moist but not waterlogged. Water moderately (they don't tolerate excess water!) and provide frequent fertilisation for abundant flowering. Begonias can be prone to powdery mildew. They are frost-sensitive and cannot withstand negative temperatures. For this reason, they are often grown in containers that can easily be brought indoors to heated greenhouses or conservatories at the first signs of frost. If the begonia is planted in the ground, lift it at the first signs of frost and store it in a sheltered place until the following spring.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
