The Begonias from the Illumination® series are very recent varieties, selected for their semi-trailing habit and highly colourful flowers. The Begonia Illumination® 'Tons Apricot' is a selection that offers semi-double flowers, in elongated corollas, in a range of yellow-orange-apricot shades. This variety grows quickly and flowers for a long time, displaying a magnificent semi-trailing habit, ideal for hanging baskets and containers. It first forms a dome of flowers, then a cascade of green foliage and countless flowers in warm and gentle tones. Low-maintenance and tolerant to both heat and cool climates, it blooms relentlessly from summer to autumn, almost without any care, in both sun and shade.
The tuberous Begonia Illumination® 'Tons Apricot' is a herbaceous annual plant belonging to the begonia family. This variety is part of a series of recent hybrids selected for their fast growth, floriferousness, semi-trailing habit, and pure colours. The plant, which initially forms a dome, quickly spreads to reach a height of 25 cm (10in) and a diameter of 40 cm (16in). Appearing in June and lasting until the first frosts, its flowers are semi-double, elongated, with wing-shaped petals, varying from yellow-orange to light apricot, salmon or light orange. They are clustered together and bloom among thick, slightly speckled leaves that are elegant, well-formed, oblong, and pointed, in a wonderful dark green colour that highlights the flowering. The plant tolerates partial shade and full sun, as well as rainy and cool summers, as well as heatwaves, which do not prevent it from blooming. Its stems are quite fragile and can break in strong winds.
This Begonia is ideal for full sun, but it can also be placed in partial shade or even in the shade. It can be used in pots, hanging baskets, or containers. The Begonias from the Illumination series pair well with lobelias and bacopas, which are lightweight, as well as foliage plants such as gnaphallium, plectranthus, lamium, or black-foliaged ipomoeas. Begonias are also comfortable in well-maintained borders, alongside lighter flowers, as well as when grown in pots on the terrace. Lastly, it is good to know that there are hardy begonias, such as Begonia grandis.
Note: Please be aware that our plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, repot and store them in a sheltered place (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame) at a temperature above 14C° for a few weeks before planting them outside once the risk of frost is definitively gone.

Botanical data
The Begonia Illumination® 'Tons Abricot' flowers from June until the first frosts. It is planted in well-drained, fertile, moist soil, in full sun or partial shade. Water moderately (it does not tolerate excess water!) and fertilize regularly for intense flowering. The Begonia can be susceptible to powdery mildew. It is a frost-sensitive plant and does not tolerate negative temperatures. For this reason, it is often grown in containers that can be easily brought indoors into heated greenhouses or conservatories at the first signs of frost. If you grow them in the ground, remove the tubers from the soil and store them in a crate covered with newspaper, in a sheltered place, until the following spring.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
