Plants arrived quickly and in very good condition. I won't leave comments for all the plants recently purchased as there were a lot, but I am generally satisfied with the quality of the received plants, the professionalism of the team, and the after-sales service. In my opinion, the best online purchasing website for plants and seeds, very comprehensive and well-documented. I greatly appreciate being able to discover the "identification card" of a plant by simply hovering over its image with the mouse. Thank you to the staff at Pomesse de Fleurs.

Description

The Illumination® series Begonias are very recent varieties, selected for their semi-trailing habit and highly coloured flowers. The Begonia Illumination® 'Salmon' is a selection that offers large semi-double flowers, in elongated corollas, in a range of orange-pink-salmon shades. This variety grows fast and flowers for a long time, displaying a magnificent cascading habit ideal for hanging baskets and containers. Not demanding, it withstands both heat and cool climates, blooming relentlessly from summer to autumn, almost maintenance-free, in both sun and shade.

The tuberous Begonia Illumination® 'Salmon' is a herbaceous annual plant belonging to the begonia family. The plant, which initially forms a dome, quickly expands to reach a height of 25 cm (10in) and a diameter of 40 cm (16in). Appearing in June and lasting until the first frost, its flowers are semi-double, elongated, composed of wing-shaped petals, more or less pink-orange, salmon or light orange. They are gathered in clusters and bloom among thick, elegant, well-formed, oblong and pointed leaves, of a wonderful dark green colour that highlights the flowering. The plant tolerates both partial shade and sun, as well as rainy and cool summers and heatwaves, which do not prevent it from blooming. Its stems are quite fragile and can break in strong winds. As its faded flowers fall off spontaneously, the plant requires little maintenance.

This Begonia is ideal for full sun, but it can also be placed in partial shade or even in shade. It can be used in pots, hanging baskets or containers. The Illumination series Begonias pair well with lobelias and bacopas for their lightness, but also with foliage plants such as gnaphallium, plectranthus, lamium, or even black-leaved ipomoeas. Begonias are also at home in well-maintained flower beds, alongside lighter flowers, as well as when grown in pots on the terrace. Finally, it is good to know that there are hardy begonias, such as Begonia grandis.

Note: Please be aware that our plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners. Upon receipt, transplant and store them in sheltered conditions (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame) at a temperature above 14C° for a few weeks before being planted outdoors once the risk of frost is definitively eliminated.

Planting and care

The Begonia Illumination® 'Salmon' blooms from June until the first frost. It is placed in a well-drained, fertile, and moist soil, in full sun or partial shade. Moderate watering is recommended (it does not tolerate excessive water!) along with regular fertilization for an intense flowering. The Begonia can be susceptible to powdery mildew. It is a frost-sensitive plant and cannot withstand freezing temperatures. For this reason, it is often cultivated in containers that can be easily moved into heated greenhouses or conservatories at the first signs of cold weather. If you grow them in the ground, remove the tubers from the soil and store them in a crate covered with newspaper, in a protected area, until the following spring.
