The Begonia 'Summerwings White Elegance' is a latest generation variety, distinguished by its vigour, the delicacy of its foliage and flowers, as well as its unparalleled floribundity. This annual plant has a semi-trailing and highly branched habit, making it ideal for window boxes and hanging baskets. It quickly forms a beautiful cluster of green foliage, from which emerge light flowers with delicate petals, their white colour warmed by a light yellow heart and a touch of rosé champagne on the reverse of the petals. This plant is not demanding in terms of water, and it blooms continuously from summer to autumn, both in shade and in full sun.
The Begonia 'Summerwings White Elegance' is part of a series of recent hybrids developed in Germany by Kientzler. It is an herbaceous annual plant belonging to the Begoniaceae family. This variety of the 'Summerwings' series was selected for its fast growth, floribundity, and its resistance to bad weather. 'White Elegance' will quickly reach a height of 30 cm (11.8 in) and a diameter of 40 cm (15.7 in). Appearing in June and lasting until the first frost, its flowers are single, slightly double in the center, elongated, composed of wing-shaped petals, with a white colour shaded with pink on the reverse. They are grouped in clusters and bloom well above the elegant, well-formed, oblong and pointed leaves, with a wonderful dark green colour that highlights the flowering. Unlike most begonias, this plant tolerates both partial shade and full sun. It is indifferent to rainy and cool summers as well as to heatwaves, which do not prevent it from flowering.
This Begonia is ideal for full sun, but can also be placed in partial shade. It can be used in containers, window boxes, or hanging baskets. The Summerwings Begonias, with their bell-shaped flowers, go well together but also with Impatiens and lobelias, or even trailing fuchsias. Begonias are also comfortable in well-maintained flower beds, in the company of lighter flowers, as well as when grown in pots on the terrace. Finally, it is good to know that there are hardy begonias, such as Begonia grandis.
Note: Please note that our young plants in mini-plugs are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them in sheltered areas (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14°C for a few weeks before being installed outdoors once all risk of frost has passed.

Botanical data
The 'Summerwings White Elegance' Begonia flowers from June until the first frosts. It is placed in a well-drained, fertile, moist soil, in full sun or partial shade. Enhance your annual plant bed with compost as these plants are nutrient-hungry. Water moderately (it does not tolerate excess water) and provide frequent fertilisation in poor soil and in containers for intense flowering. 'Summerwings' Begonias can be prone to powdery mildew.
Begonias are frost-tender plants, so they do not tolerate negative temperatures. For this reason, they are often cultivated in containers that can be easily brought indoors into heated greenhouses or conservatories at the first signs of frost. If they are planted in the ground, it is time to remove them and store them in a sheltered place until the following spring.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
