Plants kept indoors for a few weeks. Two have grown outdoors out of the three. Beautiful flowering, but took a while to start. Patience is key. Lovely in a pot with a red accent. I will overwinter them soon. Hoping they will survive the winter.

Description

Collection of 3 stunning trailing begonias Belleconia with large double flower pompoms in dark pink for the 'Rose' cultivar, white for 'White', and pale yellow with apricot undertones for 'Chardonnay'. Heat resistant, naturally compact and branching, cascading, they are easy to grow in partial shade or shade, and their faded flowers fall off by themselves. They are perfect for your romantic hanging baskets!

The collection includes:

1 x Begonia Chardonnay

1 x Begonia Belleconia Rose

1 x Begonia Belleconia Snow

The Begonia 'Belleconia' is an annual herbaceous plant belonging to the begoniaceae family. This variety is part of a series of recent hybrids, selected for their trailing habit, naturally compact and branching growth, floribundity, large and double flowers, as well as their great resistance. These Belleconia varieties, bushy, quickly reach a height of 25-30 cm (10-12in) and trail to 80 cm (32in) to 1 m (3ft) in height. Their abundant and prolonged flowering lasts from June to September, despite the heat and bad weather. Their elegant flowers, 5 cm (2in) wide, are double and composed of numerous elongated petals. They are gathered in bouquets and bloom among elegant elongated leaves, with dentate edges, in a dark green color. The plants tolerate partial shade and morning sun, as well as rainy and cool summers, as well as heatwaves, as long as they are regularly watered. With these 'Belconia' begonias, faded flowers naturally fall off.

The Belleconia Begonia is ideal for partial shade, in the garden or in pots. It can be used in troughs, balcony planters or hanging baskets, alone or mixed with other varieties in large hanging baskets. Begonias also thrive in well-maintained flower beds, alongside lighter flowers. Finally, it is good to know that there are hardy begonias, like Begonia grandis.

Planting and care

Plant your begonias after the last heavy frosts, in open ground or in a pot. Choose a location in the morning sun or partially shaded. They are placed in a well-drained, fertile soil, not too wet. Water moderately (it does not tolerate excess water!) and provide frequent fertilization for abundant flowering. Begonias can be susceptible to powdery mildew. They are sensitive to frost, so they do not tolerate negative temperatures. For this reason, they are often cultivated in containers that can be easily brought into heated greenhouses or under a veranda at the first frost. If the begonia is in open ground, it is time to remove it and store it in a sheltered place until the following spring.
