Description

This Nemesia Banana Split, from the Aroma series, is a variety of 'Elf's Mirror' selected for its early and fragrant flowering as well as its compact, well-groomed appearance. This adorable annual plant bears clusters of flowers that masterfully combine pale butter yellow, white, and dark yellow. They bloom en masse, covering its foliage like a swarm of butterflies, creating a truly astonishing effect for several months. The plant, with its sturdy and branched stems, shows good resistance to heat and inclement weather. It should be placed in a gently sunny exposure, in fertile and well-drained soil.

Nemesia strumosa, also known as African Nemesia, is an annual plant from the family Scrophulariaceae, native to South Africa. It is the source of numerous horticultural varieties, whose performance in terms of floriferousness and durability continues to be improved. The "Aroma" series is one of these successful creations, offering a delightfully fragrant, continuous and colourful flowering from May to September on highly branched plants.

The 'Banana Split' variety displays beautiful tricoloured flowers, pale yellow and white with a dark yellow heart, highly fragrant, gathered at the end of sturdy stems, forming a cushion of 25-30 cm (10-12in) in all directions, with a more upright than trailing habit. The foliage consists of small, highly toothed, lanceolate leaves, medium green. This well-branched plant is resistant to wind and rain.

From the first days of spring, the vibrant colours of nemesias illuminate the flowerbeds of cities and villages. On terraces and in gardens these fresh plants, with their graceful, bushy and trailing habit, perfectly adorn hanging baskets, balconies, all types of planters, and even perennial borders, preferably in full sun. They are easy to grow in the garden and produce spectacular results when planted in containers. Use them also as edging, in a mix of colours or in combination with geraniums, lobelias, verbenas, petunias, etc.

Note: Please be aware that our plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them in sheltered areas (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before being planted outdoors once the risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

Plant your Aroma Banana Split Nemesia in a sunny location or possibly in partial shade. They need a light, fertile and humus-rich soil and appreciate a fertiliser input. They do not tolerate high temperatures combined with significant humidity very well. You can plant your nemesias in a flowerbed as well as in pots. In pots, these plants should be regularly watered. Planting should be done after the last frost, in spring. In summer, during periods of high heat, do not hesitate to prune the plant severely (10-15 cm (4-6in) from the base) between flowerings to promote the formation of new flowering shoots.
