Zonal Pelargonium or Geranium. Zonal Pelargoniums are derived from a robust, undemanding, and drought-resistant South African shrub species called Pelargonium zonale. Unlike the ivy-leaved geranium, the "zonal" has an upright and bushy habit. The numerous horticultural hybrids, with their endless and generous flowering, make excellent balcony and bedding plants, easy to grow, and tolerant of watering neglect. They offer a variety of colours, monochromatic or bicoloured, showcasing shades of red, pink, salmon, mauve, or white on double, semi-double, or single flowers. There are also dwarf varieties or those with decorative foliage. From the classic Victor, to the spectacular Fireworks Scarlet or the romantic Button de rose Appleblossom, you will surely find the zonal geranium that suits you.

The zonal pelargonium forms slightly branched stems, woody at the base. It bears round and lobed leaves with a velvety surface, often adorned with a dark ring. This evergreen and aromatic foliage emits a strong characteristic odour. The zonal pelargonium is not hardy, and it is planted in spring when all risk of frost has passed. Potted plants can be overwintered in a greenhouse or conservatory.
