Description

Petunia Capella Hello Yellow is one of the latest additions to this series of Capella hybrids selected for their compact habit, exceptional floribundity, large flowers in vibrant colours, and heat resistance. This 'Hello Yellow' variety produces large, single flowers in a true, dazzling, sunshine yellow, beautiful in summer compositions. They continuously bloom, tightly packed on a neat little mound, from May-June until late in the season. This annual plant is a sensation in hanging baskets, containers, and flower beds. It is easy to grow in sunny, fertile, light, and moist soil.

Hybrid petunias all originate from several plants native to the warm regions of South America. The 'Capella Hello Yellow' Petunia belongs to the solanaceae family, closely related to ornamental tobacco and its foliage also contains alkaloids. This variety forms a compact, slightly trailing ball in record time, reaching about 20 cm (8in) high and 30 cm (12in) wide. The plant flowers from May to October, provided it is well watered and regularly fed. Its funnel-shaped flowers are large and closely packed together on dense foliage. The pure yellow corolla does not fade over time and the green-tinted throat is subtle. The hairy, bright green foliage has entire edges and is vigorous and healthy.

No other annual flowering plant has undergone such intense selection by breeders for such a long period. The results are impressive and petunias rival pelargoniums in their splendour and length of flowering, as demonstrated by this 'Capella Hello Yellow' variety. Plant it in large pots or hanging baskets for a stunning result. Create a colourful display by combining it with red, orange, purple, white, or even mauve to blue petunias. You can also plant it in flower beds to edge borders of grey-foliaged plants like ceraistes, cineraria maritima, or artemisias.

Note: Please be aware that plug plants are products intended for experienced gardeners. Upon receipt, transplant them and store them in a sheltered location (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before planting them outdoors when the risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

You can plant your Capella Hello Yellow petunias in the ground or in a pot. If you want to plant them in the ground, wait until the last heavy frosts have passed, they will tolerate a light late frost. In the meantime, you can grow them on in a pot in a warm and bright place to accelerate their growth. Petunias will flower from June to October. Plant them in a sunny or partially shaded location protected from the wind. They need light and humus-rich, well-drained soil. Do not water them too much at the beginning of the growing season, as they are sensitive to excess moisture. They tolerate drought well but will need regular watering during hot summer periods. They are floriferous and fast-growing, hungry plants. We recommend feeding them with liquid fertiliser once or twice a week during the growing season. Remove faded flowers and dry leaves as they appear to keep them looking attractive and prolong flowering.
