Description

Petunia Crazytunia Cosmic Purple is a striking variety with rich and vibrant colours. It has purple flowers bordered by an almost fluorescent pink. This colour changes depending on the light intensity and season. The flowers bloom throughout summer on a bushy, rounded, neat plant that stays tidy even in challenging weather conditions. Add it to your terrace or balcony in flower pots and hanging baskets!

Petunia belongs to the Solanaceae family; it is closely related to ornamental tobacco and its foliage also contains alkaloids. These annual, biennial, or perennial, frost-sensitive plants are mostly grown as annuals and are all native to the warm regions of South America. Petunia Crazytunia Cosmic Purple produces numerous large flowers, from June to October. Early in the season, the plant has a rather low, semi-trailing habit. As summer goes on, the vegetation becomes denser, forming a rounded clump. The velvety and well-branched stems reach a height of up to 30 cm (12in) and spread over 45 cm (18in), without the plant hollowing out in the center. This variety flowers for 4 to 5 months, provided it is regularly fed and watered. Its flowers bloom on dense foliage. The small, healthy, vibrant green, slighly hairy, ovate and pointed leaves have entire margins. This variety requires very little maintenance: simply regularly remove faded flowers.

No other annual flowering plant has received such intense selection by breeders for such a long period. The results are impressive and petunias compete with balcony geraniums in terms of splendour and length of flowering, as demonstrated by this selection of Petunia Crazytunia Cosmic Purple. Plant it in large, dark-coloured, designer flower pots, or hanging baskets, with varieties of white, purple, or red petunias. You can also plant it in flower beds, to edge borders of plants with grey or white foliage, such as cerastium, sea cineraria, or artemisia. Plant it in large flowering compositions with oxalis, clover, bacopa, or white bidens with delicate flowers, large clumps of Pennisetum x advena Rubrum…

Note: Please be aware that plug plants are products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them in a sheltered place (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14°C for a few weeks before being planted outdoors once the risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

You can plant your Crazytunia Cosmic Purple petunias in the ground or in a pot. If you want to plant them in the ground, wait until the last heavy frosts have passed. In the meantime, you can grow them on in a pot in a warm and bright place to accelerate their growth. Plant your petunias in a sunny location sheltered from the wind. They need light and humus-rich, well-draining soil. Do not water them too much at the beginning of their growth, as they are sensitive to excess moisture. They tolerate drought well but will need regular watering during hot summer temperatures. They are floriferous, vigorous, hungry plants. We recommend feeding them with a liquid fertiliser once or twice a week during the growing season. Remove faded flowers and dry leaves as they appear to keep them looking good and prolong flowering.
