Description

This Petunia Tidal Wave F1 Silver is an impressive variety, with long flexible stems completely covered in single flowers, whose lavender shade turns silvery-white as they bloom, creating a beautiful contrast with their almost black throat. Its vigor is such that it forms almost a weeping bush, unfurling waves of immense flowers from summer to autumn without interruption. Its lunar beauty flowering enhances the dark foliage and vibrant colours, forming fabulous contrasts of shades or form. This resistant annual plant to diseases and rain allows to create fabulous decorations in record time. This vigorous Petunia loves the sun, rich and fresh soils.

Our hybrid petunias are all from several plants native to the hot regions of South America. The Petunia Tidal Wave F1 Cherry belongs to the Solanaceae family, it is similar to ornamental tobacco, for example, and its foliage also contains alkaloids. 'Tidal Wave F1 Silver' is part of a series of particularly vigorous hybrids, resistant to botrytis, tolerating rainy climates well and having large delicate flowers. The plant forms a mass of trailing stems in record time, 90 cm (35in) wide and spreading over almost 2 meters (7 feet). The plant is in bloom from June to October, provided it is regularly supplied with water and fertilizer. Its cup-shaped flowers are immense, 6 to 10 cm (2 to 4in) wide, iridescent, finely veined with almost black purple on a very pale mauve background becoming silvery-white. The center of the corolla is also very dark purple. The foliage, quite pubescent, has entire edges and a dark green colour, it is vigorous and very healthy.

No other annual flowering plant has undergone such intense selection by breeders for such a long period. The results are impressive, as petunias compete with geraniums for the splendor and length of their flowering, as demonstrated by this Tidal Wave F1 Silver variety. Install it alone in large pots or hanging baskets, as this vigorous plant would shamelessly suffocate its companions. You can also plant it in a bed, at the top of a wall, from where it will cascade down lazily. If you want to stand out, plant several plants spaced 60 cm (24in) apart to form a fluffy ground cover at the base of dark foliage shrubs like 'Diabolo' physocarpus or 'Black Lace' elderberry.

Note: Please be aware that our young plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them in shelters (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame) at a temperature above 14C° for a few weeks before being installed outdoors once the risk of frost is definitively gone.

Planting and care

Plant your Tidal Wave petunias in a sunny location or possibly in partial shade, in a sheltered spot away from the wind. These plants are resistant to botrytis (a pathogenic fungus that occurs in humid climates) and tolerate cool and humid climates that do not affect their flowering. They require a light, fresh, and humus-rich soil and greatly appreciate fertilizer additions. You can plant your petunias in a pot. They should be watered regularly. Fertilizer should be applied every two weeks to maintain flowering and enhance colors. Regularly remove faded flowers. Prune the tips of the stems severely to encourage the plant to branch out.
