Description

This Scaevola Collection brings together three excellent varieties of this annual flower known as Fairy Fan Flower. Fast-growing and bushy, each one forms a beautiful dome of vegetation covered in fan-shaped flowers within a few weeks, from April to October. They can be grown in full sun or partial shade, in light, rich, well-drained soil without limestone. Scaevola is more drought-resistant than most balcony plants and also tolerates sea spray well. It is an excellent flower for pots and hanging baskets.

This collection is sold in sets of 3 plug plants, 1 of each variety, as follows:

x 1 Scaevola 'Deep Pink Touch': This variety reaches 25cm in height and 40cm in width, with flexible and long stems. The plant already blooms in April and its flowers continue to bloom until autumn. The flowers are grouped on spikes that emerge from the axils of the leaves. Each flower has 5 dark pink petals arranged in a fan shape.

x 1 Scaevola 'Blue Touch': Similar to the previous variety in terms of habit and floribundity, this variety produces flowers that are blue with a hint of mauve.

x 1 Scaevola aemula 'Surdiva White': Slightly larger, this plant reaches 60 to 80cm in height and forms an upright, compact, and spreading clump. Its flowers are larger and white in colour.

The potted Scaevola requires regular watering during the summer, but not excessively. We recommend allowing the substrate to dry out a bit between waterings and using pots with drainage holes to prevent water from stagnating. It is a very good plant for pots, containers, and even hanging baskets. Use a special horticultural compost for geraniums and flowering plants. The plants in this collection can be grouped together in a planter, with the largest one ('Surdiva White') in the middle of the other two. Leave a spacing of 40cm between the plants. You can also mix them with Bidens, Nemesias, Verbena, Calibrachoa, and annual lobelias. Always remember to place the shorter plants in front or on the edges of large flower pots.

Planting and care

Plant your Scaevola in a sunny location or possibly partial shade in very hot regions. They require a light and humus-bearing soil and appreciate a fertilizer application. They tolerate rather dry soil quite well. In pots, they need to be regularly watered. Usually grown as annuals, they are actually delicate perennials: by bringing them indoors at the first frost, you can extend their flowering into autumn and winter. Outdoor cultivation is possible by the seaside, with proper winter mulching. Plan for light pruning in March.
