Description

Myosotis sylvatica 'Savoie Boreal' offers a pale pinkish-blue flowering cloud in autumn that enhances all other plants on the terrace or in the garden. This biennial variety is particularly resistant to cold and its cushion-like habit maintains a clean appearance. It can self-seed spontaneously, but not always reliably, in random flowerbeds. The woodland forget-me-not thrives in rather moist, fertile, and well-drained soil, in non-scorching sun or in the partial shade of the undergrowth.

The woodland forget-me-not 'Savoie Boreal' is a horticultural creation. Its wild ancestor, Myosotis sylvatica, is a plant from the borage family that grows in meadows, clear undergrowth, and forest edges throughout almost all of Europe, except for the far north and southwest. Just like its wild counterpart, the 'Savoie Boreal' variety is a short-lived perennial plant, typically grown as a biennial. It has a bushy, compact habit. It forms small rosettes of pubescent, pale green foliage from which emerge hairy stems from October to January, branching in their upper part, reaching a height of 20-25cm (8-10in) and bearing rounded, slightly flattened inflorescences that increase as the flowers bloom. They consist of flowers measuring 3 to 10mm (0in) in diameter, ranging from pale pink to pale blue around a small yellow centre. Once well established, the woodland forget-me-not and its cultivars self-seed abundantly in the garden.

The forget-me-not is traditionally used to enhance spring bulbs and all spring flowers (Daffodils, narcissi, primroses), dwarf irises, or tulips whose blooming it lightens. This autumn-flowering variety will also accompany the blooming of autumn crocuses and asters, for example. You can also plant it in large groups to create a colourful carpet in perennial flowerbeds, borders, and containers. The delicate flowers of the woodland forget-me-not are highly decorative in spring bouquets, to enhance large flowers (especially roses). And, so that we don't forget, its motto could well be: 'Plant it one day, you will always have it'.

Note: Please be aware that our young plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant them as soon as possible, in pots, containers, or directly in flowerbeds.
