Description

The 'Habanera' Daisy Mix, a variety of Bellis perennis, is a must-have to brighten up spring. This biennial's early and slightly tousled pompons in candy colours, white, pink, and red, cheerfully animate balconies and borders. Hardy and floriferous, this mix will weave its way among spring bulbs.

Belonging to the Asteraceae family, daisies symbolise innocence and attachment in the language of flowers. This is what appeals to children, making us want to scatter them in the garden to welcome spring.

This plant is originally a perennial but is often used as a biennial and prefers moist but well-drained soil. It grows to a height of 15 cm (5.9 in) and is perfect for borders, where it can be planted in front of daffodils and tulips. It can also be placed in pots or containers with pansies and forget-me-nots. The plant has a dark green rosette base from which several hairy stems emerge, each bearing a single pompon-like head at the top. The pompom flowers are small flattened balls (3 cm (1.2 in) in diameter) made up of multiple delicate, long and densely positioned florets. At the start of blooming, their tiny hearts are barely visible.

Bellis perennis, commonly known as English daisy, lives up to its name as "everlasting beauties". These flowers bloom from February to May, and their bold and vibrant colours complement the palette of all spring flowers. They can be easily placed in any corner of the garden and fill in empty spaces thus bringing the beauty of spring to life.

Note: Our plug plants are intended for experienced gardeners. Upon receipt, transplant them as soon as possible into pots, containers, or directly into borders.

Planting and care

Upon receiving the 'Habanera' daisy plant, it is recommended to transplant it directly into pots or planters. Remember to monitor watering and apply fertiliser regularly, at least twice a month. These plants prefer a sunny or semi-shaded exposure.

If you plan to plant them in the ground, first transplant them into a pot. Ensure that you keep an eye on watering, but do not overwater the soil. There is no need to keep them in a greenhouse as they will thrive in a sheltered spot. You can transplant them directly into the ground in September or even October.

It is important to note that slugs and snails are attracted to their young shoots, so it is advisable to protect them by placing a line of ash around the base.

By removing the faded flowers, you will encourage new buds to emerge.
