These plants have thrived in a different planter, and yet were treated in the same way as the previous ones.

Description

Viola cornuta 'Callisto F1 Orange Purple Wing' forms plants with exceptional abundant flowering, in invariably compact clumps, covered from early spring with a tide of flowers in vibrant orange and velvety purple colours. This vigorous variety is easy to grow and flowers for a very long period. It will add a cheerful touch to borders, balconies, or patios. This biennial thrives in humus-rich soil, in partial shade.

Belonging to the violet family, the horned violet, which grows spontaneously in the Pyrenees, is a low-growing perennial plant that has given rise to numerous hybrids and cultivars. The 'Callisto Orange Purple Wing' variety is a spreading herbaceous plant 15 cm (6in) tall when in flower, with dark green, oval, and crenate evergreen leaves, forming a spreading clump. This plant is covered in flowers in spring and autumn. Its compound flowers with 5 petals resemble those of small pansies, but their petals are arranged differently. The two upper petals are large, erect, of velvety garnet-purple, while the other three are inclined downwards, of pure and vibrant orange. The heart of the flower, a deep orange, is adorned with discreet black 'moustaches'. This biennial spreads quite rapidly thanks to its rootstock and also readily self-seeds in the garden, not always faithfully.

Horned violets are intended for low flower beds, borders, as well as pots and hanging baskets, where they can be combined with other plants that flower in spring and summer. (Forget-me-nots, Dwarf Daffodils, Daisies, Primroses, Botanical Tulips, summer and autumn asters...). Horned violet flowers are edible, so feel free to decorate your plates with one or two flowers, or even add some to your salads to give them a touch of colour.

Note: Attention, our plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant them as soon as possible, in pots, containers, or directly in flower beds.

Planting and care

Horned violets appreciate a light, humus-rich soil, moist but well-drained as they fear excessive moisture in winter. In heavy soil, add a little sand to improve drainage.

Plant horned violets in a sunny but not scorching location or under light shade.

Very floriferous and fast-growing, they are greedy plants. Feed them with liquid fertiliser for container plants once or twice a week during the growing season. Water regularly but without excess. Remove faded flowers to promote new flowering.
