Description

Viola cornuta 'Wisley White' is a small perennial that produces an abundance of small pure white flowers from spring to late summer. It is easy to grow, bringing life to borders and planters with its beautiful flat and single petals. Place it in partial shade or non-burning sunlight. It prefers moist soil.

Viola cornuta 'Wisley White' is a spreading perennial plant that doesn't exceed 15cm (6in) in height and 20cm (8in) in width. Its base consists of a rosette of slightly serrated ovate evergreen leaves with a beautiful dense shiny green colour. Upright but flexible and rather fragile stems emerge from the base. They are adorned with small flowers measuring 2 to 3cm (1in) in diameter. These flowers have 5 petals: 2 overlap at the top, 2 spread laterally, and the last one completes the bottom with a little "furrow on the chin". They bring brightness to semi-shady borders.

This short-lived perennial plant self-seeds spontaneously. It can withstand cold temperatures. It prefers ordinary soils that are not too dry, and can tolerate some sun. It thrives at the front of borders, between the slabs of a path, or on a moist rockery. Like all horned violets, it is welcome in spring planters. It provides a spectacle in spring when planted alongside crocuses, daffodils, daisies, and tulips. It continues to flower until autumn. Take inspiration from our 'white-blue' planter and create a two-tone tableau with varying intensities.

Planting and care

They are fast-growing and produce an abundance of blooms, making them hungry plants. We recommend feeding them with a liquid fertiliser once or twice a week during the growing season. Water regularly but without excess. Remove faded flowers to encourage new blooms.
