Thanks to Anne Flore (order preparation & quality control) and NC (shipping service), the received clematis appears to be healthy. Planted at the base of an ornamental apple tree "Perpetu Evereste", I am now awaiting its spring growth...

Description

Clematis Success Candy is a new variety of compact climbing plant, exceptional for its long and abundant candy pink flowering. It received the bronze medal at the 2013 Plantarium in Boskoop - Netherlands.

In May and October, this robust, 2m (7ft) in height plant, bears 15cm (6in), single flowers with 6 petals, which are candy pink with purple veins and pale yellow to red anthers. Its evergreen ovate, medium green leaves are 8cm (3in) long, carried by twisting stems that twine around their support with tendrils.

Clematis success Candy is hardy to -25°C (-13°F) and likes light, well-worked, deep, moist and fertile soil, in a sunny position with its base in the shade. Plant ground cover plants to achieve this. It is well-suited to an east-facing aspect. Beware of aphids!

Clematis Success Candy is ideal for flowering pots or small structures. Combine several species of clematis or pair it with a climbing rose!

Tips: Avoid excessive fertiliser application which can stimulate foliage at the expense of flowers. Do not mulch, to prevent excessive moisture that can promote clematis wilt.

Planting and care

Clematis Success Candy is best planted in spring or autumn 10cm (4in) deep, with the root ball laid flat on the ground instead of vertically as usual. The head in the sun and the foot in the shade. Cover the base with a small mound of soil to promote new shoots. After planting, prune the stems to 30cm (12in) from the base, above a pair of buds. Train them loosely to help the plant cling on its own later. In February, prune every other branch to 50/80cm (20/32in) from the ground, every year.
