Planting and care

To grow healthy clematis plants, choose a spot that gets sun or partial shade and keep their roots cool. Cover their root ball with 3cm (1 inch) of soil and plant them in soil that's been worked to a depth of 20 cm (8 inches) and mixed with compost. Water them well during their first few weeks. To help clematis climb, provide a trellis or let them climb a nearby tree. You can prune them in June up to a height of 1m (3 feet). Avoid overwatering, which can cause fungus.
