On a terrace or balcony, clematis can be cultivated in pots or containers, provided that you choose those that bloom abundantly on short vegetation and have small growth, not exceeding 2 to 3 metres (7 to 10 feet), such as 'Diamantina', 'Arabella' or even the Cirrhosa Clematis for example. These small climbers can live for many years in containers of at least 30 litres, and filled with good well-drained and fertile soil, such as one recommended for roses. They will need to be regularly fertilised, never lacking water but without having their roots flooded. In recent years, the number of clematis suitable for pot cultivation has increased. We have tested some of them. All these varieties are also excellent garden plants, which can be allowed to climb on flowering or contrasting foliage bushes according to each gardener's taste.
