This Lonicera x brownii Golden Trumpet (R) 'Mintrump', a hardy plant, blooms in the summer during the months of June-July. The small trumpet-shaped flowers are bright yellow to orange and release a sweet scent that will attract bees and butterflies. These flowers do not exceed 4cm (2in) in length. Its foliage is dark green with a blue-green underside, and the first leaves are almost fused together to form a disc. This honeysuckle will not exceed 6m (20ft) in height, but it has a strong spreading power.

This climbing plant prefers moist to wet, humus-rich soils, with a light shade to partial shade exposure.

The cordate honeysuckle x brownii Golden Trumpet will pair perfectly with Wisterias or Actinidia kolomikta, which provides pink foliage that lasts until autumn.

Planting and care

Honeysuckles thrive in any good deep garden soil, well-drained. Practice an annual pruning to clean them up. However, it is possible to severely cut back an older subject to completely renew its structure. This restoration will be done over one or two years. Loniceras are very hardy climbing plants, ideal for quickly dressing up a wall or pergola. Provide them with support, they will cling on by themselves. We love them for their long flowering period and their wonderful fragrance. Our advice: Plant them near your terrace to fully enjoy their intoxicating scent, which intensifies in the morning and evening.
