Very pleased, the package arrived directly at my house despite the post taking a bit of time to deliver it. The plants started to thrive in less than a week.

Description

The Vitis vinifera 'Purpurea' is a lovely ornamental vine appreciated for its beautiful clusters of black grapes in autumn as well as its red-purple foliage which is very decorative during the season.

This ornamental vine produces large vigorous stems with tendrils in the axils of the leaves that wrap around and cling to any wood. When mature, it can reach a height of 6 to 7 metres (20 to 23 feet).

In spring, pretty, heart-shaped, reddish-green leaves, which are highly decorative, unfold on voluble shoots. The colour of the foliage intensifies until autumn, turning red-purple. In autumn, this ornamental vine produces beautiful clusters of black grapes, which can be used as table grapes.

Easy to grow, the Vitis vinifera 'Purpurea' thrives in sunlight and in any rich and well-draining soil. It is very hardy and can withstand temperatures as low as -15C° in a sheltered position. Plant it at the base of a pergola, arbor, or train it against a south or west-facing wall.
