Planting and care

If you want to grow raspberry plants, it's important to know that they prefer soil that is rich in humus and stays moist all summer. They can handle partial shade but need plenty of light. In cooler climates, they can tolerate full sun, but in hot areas, partial shade is best. You should plant them between October and April in soil that has compost and well-rotted manure. In the first year, it's important to water them regularly so that they can grow strong roots. If it's very hot or dry, you should give them more water. Raspberry plants can get sick if they don't have the right growing conditions. Some diseases that they can get include raspberry anthracnose, raspberry rust, powdery mildew, grey rot during rainy periods, and botrytis. To protect them from getting sick, it's best to fertilise them with organic fertilisers that will help their soil to promote the growth of helpful bacteria. Raspberry plants can also get attacked by raspberry worms, which are small beetles that lay their eggs in the fruit. But don't worry, the worms won't cause any significant damage to the fruit.

Care

Pruning instructions Raspberry bushes that flower repeatedly produce fruits twice - once in late summer and autumn on the young shoots, and then again at the start of the following summer on the same stems. To maintain proper growth, cut the fruiting shoots at ground level in August. In winter, prune the ends of the autumn fruiting stems. Make sure to remove any dead wood, as well as weak or diseased branches.
