The cherry tree arrived with few leaves. It has slightly recovered during the summer but did not bear any fruit in this first year. We'll see how it goes after winter.

Description

The Fruit Cherry Tree Me Cherry Me is an amazing small fruit tree that combines several qualities: it bears fruit even in the absence of a nearby pollinator, it adapts its growth to the amount of soil available, it produces fruit very quickly, and it produces large cherries of excellent taste. It is a selection well suited for small spaces and for growing in pots on balconies or patios!

The cherry tree or Prunus cerasus Fruit me Cherry me is part of a series of semi-dwarf fruit trees that have recently been developed in Spain. All the fruit trees in this range are grafted onto a cutting-edge rootstock that adapts to the available soil volume while allowing for fruit production from the first years of cultivation. The Fruit me range of fruit trees is also easy to grow, hardy, reliable, and disease-resistant.

This Cherry Me cherry tree has a compact habit and very reasonable growth, reaching only 2m (7ft) in height and 1.50m (5ft) in width at maturity in open ground. When grown in a pot, its dimensions will be even smaller. Self-fertile, this cherry tree does not need to be associated with another variety for pollination, so it can be planted alone. It bears fruit very quickly, usually after one or two years of cultivation. In spring, in April, this small tree is covered with small white flowers that appear before the leaves. This beautiful flowering, which is not very sensitive to late frosts, gives way to numerous large cherries, with a shiny red colour and juicy, crunchy, and sweet flesh, from mid-June onwards.

You can enjoy the cherries right after picking them or use them to make pies, clafoutis, jams, and other preserves. Cherries are rich in vitamin C, minerals, and trace elements.

Note that the harvest can vary from year to year and may exhibit an alternation phenomenon, allowing the bush to replenish its reserves.

Planting and care

Easy to grow, the Fruit Me Cherry Me Cherry Tree grows in slightly acidic, neutral, or slightly alkaline soil. It prefers moist, light soils and is sensitive to heavy and clay soils. Choose a sunny location. To limit the risk of late frost on the flowers, it is recommended to plant the Cherry Tree in a sheltered position, facing west and protected from cold winds in regions with spring frosts. Planting is preferably done in autumn. If you plant multiple trees, space them one metre apart for dwarf varieties.

Loosen the soil deeply, remove rocks and unwanted weeds. Add some sand to improve drainage. Dig a hole 4 to 5 times the volume of the root ball. Make sure to separate the bottom soil from the topsoil. Mix bonemeal or well-rotted compost or potting soil with the bottom soil and pour this mixture into the planting hole. Add a stake. Place the root ball, cover with the topsoil, and tamp down well. Water generously (about 10 L). Attach the stake to the plant, crossing the tie in the shape of an 8, without touching the trunk.

During cultivation, watering is not necessary except in case of extreme heat. Mulch at the base to keep it cool in summer. Protect your harvest by installing either a bird net, aluminum foil, or old CDs. In case of aphid attack, spray with soapy water.

For container planting: place a layer of gravel or clay pellets at the bottom of the pot to facilitate drainage. Add a layer of soil and then place the plant, covering it with a mixture of 2/3 garden soil, 1/3 potting soil or well-rotted compost. Every spring, replace the top layer with fresh potting soil. Water regularly and moderately. At the end of autumn, protect the pot with insulation before winter frosts.
