Lavandula intermedia Edelweiss is a shrub with a very compact, dense, and bushy habit, with evergreen aromatic foliage which is a greenish-blue colour. It has abundant summer flowers in spikes of pure white and highly fragrant flowers. Even in the middle of winter, its rounded shape and silvery foliage will brighten up the garden!
Lavandula x intermedia Edelweiss belongs to the family of Lamiaceae, and is native to the Mediterranean regions of southern Europe. This variety of lavender is a small bush measuring 60cm (24in) in all directions, with an upright, very compact, dense, and vigorous habit, forming a rounded bushy clump. Its decorative evergreen foliage consists of narrow aromatic leaves of a beautiful greenish-blue colour. In summer, this lavender is covered with numerous highly fragrant pure white flowers that are melliferous, carried by short cylindrical spikes at the ends of woody stems.
This hybrid lavender Edelweiss requires, like most other lavenders, to be planted in full sun in an ordinary soil (even a dry and rocky soil), that is very well-drained.
In a sunny and warm location, its silver-green foliage will be vibrant and its white flowers will exude an intense fragrance. An ornamental plant par excellence, lavender can be used in flower beds, as a specimen plant, for borders, rock gardens, pots, coastal areas, and even as a low-flowering hedge.
With its graphical appearance, the colour of its foliage and its white flowers, there are infinite possibilities for the gardener. Lavandin Edelweiss can be paired with grasses that, with their tousled habit, will contrast with its rounded shape and create a very graphical scene. It will also work wonders at the base of climbing roses, paired with shrubs like cistus, landscape roses, shrub salvias; or mixed with Iris germanica, daylilies, and poppies. You can also create beautiful pots to place on the terrace or balcony. It is also possible to combine multiple varieties of lavender together, creating a harmonious and elegant display with a variety of flower and foliage colours, as well as varying plant sizes.
Properties: Lavender is a highly melliferous plant, contributing to the conservation of bees: the nectar of its flowers attracts bees, making some of the best honey.
Anecdote: During Roman times, women who wanted to secretly taste wine (a beverage that was forbidden to them) would chew a few sprigs of lavender to perfume their breath and deceive their husbands.

Botanical data
Very easy to grow and hardy to -15°C (5°F), lavender however requires a warm and sunny location, in a light, calcareous, clay, rocky and dry soil, which is very well-drained. It does not tolerate heavy soils and excess water. If this is the case, it will be necessary to lighten the soil by adding sand and gravel. Prune lavender each year, just after flowering, by removing faded flowers. A second pruning should be done in early spring, by cutting back the plant by a third (without going down to the old wood), to maintain a beautiful compact, rounded shape and its flowering qualities. Lavenders needing very little water. Watering will only be necessary in the first year of planting. When pruning, do not throw away the faded flowers, but collect them to make lavender sachets that will delicately perfume your drawers, and will also make an excellent moth repellent. Harvest for dry bouquets when they have just bloomed. Let them dry in a dry and ventilated place, upside down.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
