Deschampsia cespitosa Bronzeschleier

Deschampsia cespitosa Bronzeschleier, also known as tufted hairgrass, is a grass that forms a compact tuft of evergreen leaves, accompanied by green-bronze spikes of flowers that turn straw-yellow in late summer.

Forming an upright tuft measuring 80cm (32in) in height, the tufted hairgrass Bronzeschleier has numerous flowers, carried in wide and airy spikes, with a green-bronze colour that becomes increasingly bright as the season progresses, eventually turning straw-yellow.

When the slanting light of the autumn sun illuminates this grass plant against a backdrop of yews, one cannot remain unaffected by the evanescent beauty that emanates from such a scene. And it's easy to recreate this scene since these very hardy plants tolerate any ordinary, moist soil, even clay.
