Description

The Pennisetum alopecuroides Hameln is a perennial grass with early flowering.

In late summer, cream-white fluffy spikes with brown highlights appear, carried on stiff stems at a height of 50cm (19.7 in). The deciduous foliage is a pretty light green. The base is clump-forming, meaning it is very compact and does not spread.

Very hardy and easy to grow, Pennisetum Hameln likes the sun and grows in any type of rich, well-drained soil, neither too dry nor too wet.

You can mix it with other grasses or tall perennials such as sage or Buenos Aires verbena.

Planting and care

To plant Pennisetum alopecuroides Hameln:

  1. Dig a hole that is 20 cm (7.9 in) wide, 20 cm (7.9 in) long, and 20 cm (7.9 in) deep. If the soil is heavy, mix in some compost with the soil, refill the hole partially and plant after removing it from the pot.
  2. Cover the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1.2 in) of soil, pack the soil around the plant, and water well to remove any air pockets.
  3. If the weather is dry, water your plant regularly for a few weeks to help it establish.

Grasses are decorative all year round but renew their foliage in spring. We recommend pruning your plants to 10 cm (3.9 in) at the end of February or the beginning of March to make room for new growth.
