Received the imperata in poor condition with a very scrappy appearance. Soil two-thirds out of the buckets, unlikely packing. From the moment I opened the parcel, it was a disappointment. One has died since planting, and the other three are really struggling with a sad little green and red shoot of 4 cm. The vitality of the young plants received is questionable. So far, a rather unsatisfactory experience.

Planting and care

To prepare the soil for planting, dig a hole that measures 20 cm (7.9 in) x 20 cm (7.9 in) x 20 cm (7.9 in). If the soil is heavy, mix it with some compost and partially fill the hole with the mixture. After removing the plant from its pot, place it in the hole so that the top of the root ball is covered with 3 cm (1.2 in) of soil. Add an organic fertiliser to nourish the plant during its rooting period without any risk of burning. Firmly pack the soil and water generously to eliminate any air pockets. If the weather is dry, water the plant regularly for a few weeks to help it establish. During rainy weather, be on the lookout for slugs.
