Description
Melica altissima 'Atropurpurea', or tall melic grass, is a perennial grass forming a dense tuft with narrow and flexible, light green leaves. It bears purple-brown flower spikes, 15cm (6in) long.
The slightly wild appearance of the spikes is ideal in fresh bouquets.
Hardy and easy to grow, it likes sun or partial shade and grows in any good garden soil.

Undemanding in terms of soil quality, Melica altissima 'Atropurpurea' grows well in any good garden soil, preferably in full sun except in very hot regions where the foliage may go dormant as early as August.
